Vaping: For Smokers & Non-Smokers

What is harmful about cigarettes is not tobacco. Nor the nicotine. It is the process of burning the tobacco, and worse, of the combustion being incomplete.

 

This means that a lot of toxic substances will be created by the burning process. 4000+, we are told. And amongst them 50 carcinogens. The burning process produces tar, which accumulates in your lungs. That can’t be good.

 

However, the great killer of smokers is not, as you might think, lung cancer. The great killer is heart disease and other circulatory accidents, like strokes. Mostly due to inhaling CO and other venoms. All of them were created by the burning process.

 

What you inhale by vaping is mostly 4 substances: Vegetable Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Nicotine, and some edible flavoring. Besides trace amounts of other substances, in too small quantities to cause any harm.

 

None of these substances is harmful in any way. Except for nicotine, that being a mild stimulant, will momentarily raise your blood pressure or heartbeat. Such as any other mild stimulant, like caffeine.

 

Besides that, some flavorings might have some level of toxicity, as the original substance is already toxic, like menthol. The level of toxicity from flavorings is always trace amounts, too small to cause harm.

 

You are already familiar with the idea that vaping is at least 95% safer than smoking. Scientists are very conservative people, and so will not risk overstatements. Personally, I think that 95% are underrated.

 

Anyway, that is the difference between smoking a pack a day or smoking a cigarette a day. You decide.

 

Another huge pro for vaping is that it allows smokers to keep the habit. By switching to vaping, smokers will get rid of the vice while keeping the habit.

 

That is the main reason why vaping is so successful in helping people get rid of cigarettes. And we know that the habit is the hardest to beat if you are looking to stop smoking.

 

Well, vaping is not exactly a healthy habit. In the same way that drinking coffee or tea is. We all know it isn’t healthy. So, if you don’t smoke, there is no reason why you should vape.

 

People are vaping for almost 15 years now. A lot of long-term data was already collected, and so far no long-term effects of vaping were found. Even if some long-term effect is found (unlikely), you have 15 years to think about it.

 

It will vary from person to person but the average person should be able to use vapor for flavor and enjoyment without much harm.

 

There is a fear by some that vapor will lead to the renormalization of smoking. Perhaps they fear a rather harmless version of smoking becoming commonplace.

Without nicotine, you are simply taking the same educated risk as the rest of us. So perhaps non-smokers have other reasons to use this technology.

 

There’s no increased risk to the average person of going from non-smoker to smoker using vaping as a stepping stone, the people who know enough to ‘vape not smoke’ will never smoke, while the ones who pick up smoking probably would have anyway. That’s why smoking still exists.

 

Unfortunately, all vaporizers are different, but a lot of them have the same components. First of all, there must be juice/oil in your vape. If you don’t, it’ll burn the coil and taste like death. That’s not an overstatement either.

 

Next, make sure it’s charged. If it has a place on the vape to charge it, just consider that it’s not charged. If it’s flat and has no place to charge, it’s a disposable vape that comes charged already.

 

All that’s left to do is vape it. Some vapes will automatically turn on when you inhale, these are called ‘autodraw’ vapes. More often, there’s a button to press to turn on the vape, so just press that as you inhale.

 

Lastly, don’t forget to prime your coils. This means that if you fill-up the vape yourself, make sure to let the juice soak into the coil for at least ten minutes. The last thing you want to do on a brand new pod is to burn it out.

 

It feels nice and you feel healthy but if you really love smoking, it doesn’t really replace the feeling.

 

You can even buy some nicotine and add it. But the thing is it stops the cravings. It doesn’t bring similar satisfaction.

 

You can stop smoking for weeks when you vape. You can start step by step. When you start vaping it reduces the craving for smoking cigarettes. So you can reduce smoking number of cigarettes per day then eventually stop smoking.

 

So vaping feels like just smoking air. Inhaling and exhaling air. But you can console yourself by thinking about the fact that you are not smoking a pack of cigarettes a day anymore. So when you will smoke a cigarette, completely let the carbon dioxide drain out completely or to a low level, and smoke again. That’s like about 4-5 hours. Sometimes even up to 8 hours.
