Under the MMA act of 2003, after the temporary bidding gap, Round 2021 becomes effective on Jan 2021 and is supposed to extend through Dec 31st 2023. There are 16 product categories with the newly included items: back braces, knee braces and non invasive ventilators.
The implementation of lead item pricing will be introduced for the first time for all the items in the product categories. Bidders will now submit only one bid for lead items in the product category rather than submitting individual bids for each item within any category.
The notable difference will be in Round 2021, SPA for a lead item is equal to the maximum bid submitted for that item by bidders whose lead item bids for the product category are equal to or below the pivotal bid for that product category in a CBA.
From January 1, 2019, there is a temporary gap in the DMEPOS CBP that CMS expects will last until December 31, 2020.During the temporary gap, any Medicare enrolled DMEPOS supplier may furnish DMEPOS items and services to people with Medicare.
