Everything You Need to Know about Circuit Breaker and Its Classifications

Have you noticed how the electricity at home gets disconnected all of a sudden? Whenever a problem like a short circuit arises, residential circuit breakers help manage the situation. It regulates the scenario when the current is overflowed across the wires. It tackles the issues of overloading and short circuits.

According to the usage, electrical equipment suppliers are classified into two types. They are – industrial and domestic. Domestic circuit breakers are also known as residential circuit breakers.

Another way of classifying the industrial electrical transformers is- by their functionality. There are three types of circuit breakers- power circuit breakers, distribution circuit breakers, and consumer circuit breakers.

Power circuit breakers:

They are usually installed in the connection of an electrical panel from devices like transformers, generators, and so on. They are supposed to be aligned with the power distribution.

Distribution circuit breakers:

These circuit breakers help protect the conductors which connect the other point of the installation with the distribution panel.

Consumer circuit breakers:

They provide direct protection as they are located close to the load. Also, you may find another type of classification based on their type of construction. One of them is miniature circuit breakers which are also known as MCB. You can see them often in DIN rail mounted. They are majorly used for final consumption.

Another one is regular circuit breakers. They are more powerful than the miniature ones. You can use them for the currents up to around 1000 A. And last but not least circuit breakers are applied to the higher currents than regular ones. It can be used for currents up to around 6300 A.

You can get all types from electrical equipment suppliers. Now, naturally, the next question that comes is – which residential circuit breakers are suitable for your needs. There are certain parameters to selecting a circuit breaker. Check them out below.

• Rated current
• Rated operating voltage
• Adjustment of thermal trip current
• Adjustment of the magnetic trip current
• Breaking capacity

Electrical distribution and motor control are crucial factors for any home or factory. And when it is about essential aspects like residential circuit breakers, you should pay more attention. Anyways, industrial circuit breakers are also significant. Take care of them well too.
