Don’t miss out on these hidden gems in the PS Plus game collection

Have you made some room on your digital floor? Good, because the new Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus have added hundreds of games to the libraries of subscribers. It’s easy to find the big games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Death Stranding, but where else should you look?

We’ve gone through both AAA and indie games after diving right into the pile. We’ve found the best PS Plus games that you might have missed because they were buried in the large number of games.

The best PS Plus games you might have missed

For our list of the best PS Plus games you might have missed, we focused on the PS4 and PS5 games that are part of both the Extra and Premium tiers. The games in the Premium-only PS3 and older catalogues are a lot more varied.

Action / RPG

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night: This is a great gothic metroidvania game made by Koji Igarashi, the creator of Castlevania. Steal the powers of your enemies and use them as Shard attacks against all kinds of enemies and bosses as you make your way through the maze-like halls.

Ghostrunner:Want to see how quick you are? Ghostrunner’s FPS (first-person swording), parkour, and combat challenges will really test your ability to react in split seconds. Take control of this cybernetic ninja if you like doing the same quick steps over and over to get better at running.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Given Square Enix’s disappointment with the sales numbers, it’s likely you skipped over Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Probably because Marvel’s Avengers were so disappointing. But wait, this one is actually good! This adventure is a blast to play and laugh through on PS Plus because it has funny writing and good combat systems.

The Messenger:This is an action-platformer game by Sabotage that is based on old-school games and has some great new game mechanics. You play as a young ninja who has to travel all over the world and through time to deliver a scroll that could save his clan from an attack by demons.

Moonlighter:Run a shop during the day and raid dungeons at night. Moonlighter combines procedural dungeon diving like in Zelda with a minigame where you price items. As you grow your store, upgrade your gear, and go deeper into even more dangerous depths, you’ll have to do both. The music is also broken.

Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition: This huge fantasy RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, the same company that made The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas, will give you your fantasy fix.

Co-op / Multiplayer

Human Fall Flat:Human Fall Flat is a physics puzzle game where you control floppy plasticine men to solve weird physics puzzles. Or, you can spend half the time knocking each other over, pushing each other off ledges, and laughing like crazy.

KeyWe:You and your partner are two kiwi birds that can’t fly. You run a post office by hopping, pecking, and slamming your butts on different buttons, bells, and levers. Need we say more?

Moving Out: The only thing that your moving crew is known for is speed. Windows? Smash ’em. Furniture? Lob it. Think of Overcooked, but with 100 percent more TVs getting broken.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons:Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a story about two brothers who have to work together to get through a fairytale world. You only need one controller to play the game by yourself or with a friend.

Magicka 2:In Magicka 2, you can make and cast spells that are so powerful that they will kill your friends almost as often as they will kill your enemies.

Golf With Your Friends:Hit golf balls around increasingly crazy minigolf courses as you challenge your friends to take harder and harder shots to cut down their shot counts.

Puzzle

Hue:Hue is a unique puzzle game where you solve problems by changing the colour of the world’s background. Each colour will show or hide obstacles so that new ways to move forward can be found.

Relicta: There aren’t many first-person puzzle games. In Relicta, you can mess with the laws of physics and use magnetism to move yourself, objects, and the environment on a mysterious moon base.

I Am Dead:You died not long ago. But don’t worry, the afterlife isn’t that bad. With the help of the ghost of your dog, Sparky, you’ll have to figure out the secrets of the island you used to live on and find the other ghosts that are hiding there to stop a disaster.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War:In Valiant Hearts: The Great War, an animated comic book story, four different characters try to get through life in the trenches and the horrors of World War 1. They do this by solving puzzles and trying to keep relationships with other people who are also struggling.

Exploration / Adventure

Outer Wilds:You only have 20 minutes to save the world in Outer Wilds. No, we messed up when we checked our notes. You have 20 minutes to look around several worlds in this solar system that is about to break apart. In this great time-looping mystery, you can move around and find story threads as you go.

Minit:Do you think 20 minutes is too long? How about seeing a whole world in less than a minute? It sounds hard, but Minit turns this time-looping puzzle into a brilliant work of art that will also make you laugh a lot.

Strategy / City Building

Bad North:Bad North is a roguelike tactics game where you defend a small island from invaders using a small-scale strategy.

Empire of Sin:There aren’t enough strategy games like XCOM, and even less that take place in the United States during Prohibition. Use charm, fear, and brute force to build up your criminal empire among the gangs of Chicago.

Frostpunk: Console Edition: Frostpunk: Console Edition is both a strategy game and a survival game. You are in charge of a circular city in a brutally cold and harsh environment. Your goal is to stay alive as long as possible while meeting the needs of the city and its people.

Surviving Mars:The Red Planet doesn’t like it when living things start to grow on it. Slope Game is what challenging city-builder gives off. Surviving on Mars is hard because all kinds of bad things can happen to your colony. Keep those domes in good shape and keep bringing in supplies, and you might be able to keep your people alive.

Horror / Thriller

Observation: Take control of the AI on an Earth-orbiting station and try to help your human charge, Dr. Emma Fisher, as the station starts to break down. Even if you don’t trust each other, you’ll have to work together to get through this.

Soma:Soma is a sci-fi horror game made by the same people who made Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It will really mess with your head. There aren’t a lot of jump scares in this movie, but the creepy underwater world of ruins and broken animals will give you the chills.

Deliver Us The Moon: The Earth’s resources are running out, and you are the only astronaut left on the moon. Your job is to save humanity. As you look around the lunar base, you’ll find out that it may not be what you thought it was for…

Along with big games like Returnal, the games above should keep players of Extra and Premium PlayStation busy for a long time. Have you found any other great PS+ games that we missed? Tell us about them in the comments!
